    Got a GreeneScene?

The GreeneSaver has become quite famous around these parts for our pictures, many of them submitted by readers. Each year, we receive literally hundreds of photos from readers like you sharing their own GreeneScenes.

Most are to be considered for the calendar contest or perhaps our Front Cover feature or regular monthly greenescenes or even special editions like our Hunter’s Brag Mag. We love these photos, they are so much a part of the what the GreeneSaver is all about – local people sharing the good life in and around Greene County, Pennsylvania. However, once in awhile, we receive pictures with super subject matter, but the quality or size is not adequate for printing. That’s always a bummer. So we want to share with you a few tips to remember when taking photos and when submitting them for consideration.

    Tips on Taking GreeneScenes
The best pictures are often unplanned, which means it’s a good idea to have your camera handy at all times. Carry it with you, and always make sure your battery is charged. Another very important consideration is the size and quality of your photos. Make sure your camera’s quality is on the highest or finest setting possible. Your memory card may not hold quite as many, but it is a necessity if you want your photos considered for publication.

    Tips on Submitting GreeneScenes
Once the picture is taken, how you submit it to us is often when the real problems occur. Digital pictures should be emailed to us, or submitted on a disc, but we prefer that you do not print them out yourself on your home computer. And please send the digital files as attachments only. Do not embed the photo into any document or use picture sharing software. This is VERY IMPORTANT. We frequently receive photos that have been sent with an online picture sharing service such as those provided by Kodak, Snapfish and others. While these may be great for online sharing and viewing, we cannot accept them for publication consideration. Simply attach your original jpeg file to your email. Do not embed it by dragging it onto the message body. Just use the attachment button on your toolbar and attach the original file to the email. Then always, ALWAYS type your name, address, phone number and information about the picture in the body of the email. Some email programs ask if you would like the picture you have attached reduced for easier sending. If you answer yes to this question, it reduces the file size, making a lower resolution photo that is fine for viewing on the computer screen, but not for printing. ALWAYS SAY NO to this option. Keep original size.

It’s also a good rule to send us photos in their original form, not cropped or enhanced in any way. Keep your camera set on the highest or finest quality setting to obtain high resolution photos that will print well and do not crop or add special effects with photo software.
We will also accept high quality, professionally printed photos. You can snail mail them or drop off at our office. Please, when submitting prints, ALWAYS write your name, address, phone number and any picture information on a separate piece of paper and then tape it to the back of the photo before sending or dropping off. We do not return photos, so if it is something you want to keep, make sure you submit a copy.

If you are sharing an old photograph for our monthly GreeneScene of the Past , we prefer that you bring it to our office in person, where we can scan it in just a moment or two and return it to you immediately.

If you are submitting photos for the GreeneScene Calendar contest, please put the word calendar in the subject line of your email or on the envelope of your snail mail. All other photos received will be considered for general GreeneScenes or front covers.

All photos can be sent to info@greenesaver.com, or mailed to GreeneSaver 30 West High Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370.

Go out and snap a few – we want to hear from you!
